芸術鑑賞や美に対する関与が個人のウェルビーイングを高め，ストレスや不安を低減させる等，芸術が心身にもたらす効用や芸術と健康の関係に世界的な注目が集まっている。しかし，これまでは質的・定性的な研究が中心であり，定量的な把握やその背後にあるメカニズムの解明にまでは至っていない。また，美術鑑賞に関する美的経験の評価は，これまで主に実験室での非常に制約された環境下での検討が主だったが，その生態学的妥当性については常に批判が高く，実験的統制と生態学的妥当性の両立が必要となる。
そこで本研究では，具体的な美術鑑賞行動をで計測する，実験室に再現した美術館と同様の環境下での仮想美術館環境を構築し，様々な行動の手がかりを計測できるようにした。2022年度は，絵画と同様のキャンバスに印刷ができる高精細の大判プリンターを導入し，絵画作品と同様の作品を展示し，鑑賞行動が計測できるようにした。その際，メガネ型視線計測装置を用いて絵画を鑑賞している時の視線を計測した。また，デプスカメラを用いた鑑賞者の位置計測を行うなど，美術館での鑑賞行動を具体的に再現しつつも科学的指標を用いた鑑賞行動の計測ができるように試みた。
また美術鑑賞は近年在り方のバリエーションが見うけられるようになり，単に1人で作品を鑑賞するだけでなく，複数人でかつ対話を用いた鑑賞（対話型鑑賞）が用いられるようにもなっており，本研究ではJST共創の場支援プログラムの取り組みとタイアップすることにより，国立西洋美術館での対話型鑑賞ワークショップの効用についての検討も行うことができた。その結果，美術館での実際の作品を用いた対話型鑑賞の前後による測定を予備的に行うことができ，限定的でありながらも，対話型鑑賞がもたらすポジティブな側面と鑑賞体験への意識化過程を明らかにすることができつつある。
Art appreciation and engagement with beauty enhance personal well-being and reduce stress and anxiety. The benefits of art for the mind and body and the relationship between art and health are attracting worldwide attention. However, until now, research has mainly been qualitative, and quantitative understanding and clarifying the mechanisms behind these effects have not yet been achieved. In addition, the evaluation of aesthetic experiences related to art appreciation has so far mainly been conducted in the laboratory under very restricted conditions. Still, its ecological validity has always been highly criticized, and experimental control and ecological validity are needed.
In FY2022, a high-definition large-format printer capable of printing on canvases similar to paintings was introduced, works similar to those in paintings were exhibited and their viewing behavior was measured. The works were exhibited so that viewing behavior could be measured. In doing so, we used a spectacle-type eye-gaze-measuring device to measure people's gaze while they were looking at the paintings. In addition, the viewer's position was measured using a depth camera, and an attempt was made to reproduce the viewing behavior at the museum concretely while measuring the viewing behavior using scientific indices.
In recent years, art appreciation has seen a variation in how it is practiced, with multiple people viewing artworks in an interactive manner (interactive appreciation), rather than just one person viewing artworks alone. In this study, in collaboration with the JST Co-creation Place Support Programme, we also examined the effectiveness of interactive viewing workshops at the National Museum of Western Art. As a result, preliminary measurements were made before and after the interactive viewing of actual artworks at the museum. Although limited, the positive aspects of interactive viewing and the process of becoming aware of the viewing experience are being clarified.
