統語研究では、モダリティ・否定・省略・話題化などの構文に現れる手指および非手指表現の言語学的性質の記述と考察を行った。愛媛県大島の宮窪町でろう者と聴者が共有する宮窪手話の記述を行った。学校法人明晴学園と協働し、日本手話を母語とするろう乳児と保護者の対話コーパス作成を始め、一部の分析結果を学会で発表した。成人の手話学習者の代名詞やうなずきに関する知見を得て、大学での手話クラス運営について考察を行った。数量詞の解釈に見られる空間使用の国際比較研究を開始した。これらの研究活動の多くで、ろうの共同研究者が重要な役割を果たしている。ろう者・聴者が同時に参加できるワークショップを2 年にわたって開催した。
Our syntactic analysis revealed the linguistic properties of manual and non-manual expressions used for expressing modality, negation, ellipsis, and topicalization. A documentation project of Miyakubo Sign Language, a shared sign language in Ehime, has been conducted. In a joint project with a school for the deaf, we have created a corpus of deaf children and their parents, and preliminary observations were presented at an international conference. Our L2 team conducted research on L2 learning of Japanese Sign Language (JSL), and discussed possible improvements of college-level JSL curriculum. Various results of our research project were incorporated into an introductory textbook of sign linguistics (in Japanese and JSL) and a weekly JSL class on the national TV station. Deaf members played major roles in most of those research activities. Over two years, we organized sign　linguistics workshops where deaf and hearing participants collaborated to describe linguistic patterns of JSL.
