今年度の主な目的は、今後長期的に比較ゴシック文学論に取り組むことができるために研究環境を整えることでした。何より、電子資料やPDFといった媒体を持ったテクストの多用、また、地方文学館などで行う研究調査ノートや論文の作成のためのワードプロセッサーなどの機能を持ったコンピューターは今年度以前に持っていませんでしたので、ディジタルの時代に効率的に研究できるために個人研究用のコンピューターの購入が第一の目的でした。COVID-19の感染拡大状況の影響で結局実店舗で購入することができず、オンライン注文という形になってしまいましたが、自分の研究活動に適したコンピューター（アップル）とその周辺機器を無事に購入することができました。

また、残った研究費で、申請書で仮に取り上げた書物とは異なる書名となってしまいましたが、主な研究対象としている作家、泉鏡花と日夏耿之介に関する書物を購入することができました。『日夏耿之介の世界』は、日夏耿之介研究の第一人者である井村君江氏による研究書で、日夏耿之介研究において基礎的なテクストであろうがために購入し精読し始めました。自分の日夏耿之介研究の出発点にもなるような書物です。同様に、『水の迷宮』は種村季弘による泉鏡花論集成であり、特に単行本初収録の論文などが数多く含まれているため、今までと違った視点での泉鏡花研究のテクストとして購入しました。最後に、『龍蜂集』は泉鏡花の作品集ですが、副題が「澁澤龍彦 泉鏡花セレクション I」とあるように、当時実現しなかった選集のために澁澤龍彦が選んだ作品を、あえて具体化させるようなテクストで、山尾悠子氏による解説や小村雪岱による装釘・装画も含まれており、戦前から続く「鏡花本」という文献学的な媒体の伝統の只中に位置付けすべきテクストとして、今後研究対象としていきたい書物の一つであります。
My research goal for this year was primarily a preparatory one. In other words, I strove to assemble a personal research environment amenable to the long-term pursuit of a comparative theory of Gothic literatures, which I am currently taking as my main research theme. My first and most important goal was to acquire a computer that fit all of my research needs. I use a wide variety of digitalized texts and materials in my research, and also conduct research as necessary on location at regional literature museums and libraries outside of the Tokyo metropolitan area. Accordingly, I determined that my research would be best served by a portable laptop computer with a generous capacity for data storage. (It is worth noting that my needs evolved somewhat this year with the rise of Zoom meetings and classes, which underlined for me the importance of a computer equipped with a fast and durable processor, as well. This, above all, explains the discrepancy between the proposed monetary amount in my original submission and the actual cost of the computer I purchased.)

With my remaining research funds, I purchased three texts that will form a foundation for my future research on the comparative Gothic. The first book is a monograph on Hinatsu Konosuke by Imura Kimie, one of the major contemporary Hinatsu scholars. Imura's work will function as a sort of starting point for my own research on Hinatsu. I also purchased a collection of articles and essays on Izumi Kyoka by Tanemura Suehiro; I was keen to purchase this volume because it contains a significant amount of material published in standalone book form for the first time. Lastly, I purchased a collection of Kyoka's work that is based on original plans for an innovative anthology series by Shibusawa Tatsuhiko decades ago. This anthology series never came to fruition in Shibusawa's lifetime, but has been recently "reanimated," as it were, in such a way that places this text firmly within the tradition of texts by and about Kyoka that hold an important place in the history of the book in modern Japan for the care and and attention they pay to the physical and aesthetic aspects of book-making.
