本研究は，「冠詞を持たない言語」である中国語，日本語とドイツ語を対照することによって，冠詞の機能に多角的に迫ろうという試みである。共同研究者Lee博士（ミュンヘン大学）は，台湾出身のドイツ語研究者であるが，期間内に日本フンボルト協会の共同研究奨学金によって２度にわたり来日し，申請者および日本のドイツ語研究者と集中的な議論をした。その際，日本独文学会のゼミナールで発表，申請者の所属大学などで学生，院生を対象に講演，授業の参加などを通して若手研究者同士の交流を持った。
以下はLee氏と申請者の主な共同研究の内容である。
・2019年9月：日本独文学会言語学ゼミナールにおいて関連したテーマで発表：Lee: "Referenzstärke und Thetik-Kategorik im Chinesischen im Vergleich zum Deutschen"
田中:Artikel als Markierung der Ambienz"
・2019年11月：
田中がミュンヘンにLee氏のもとをおとずれ，9月の互いの研究発表について，議論をすすめ，12月に再度Lee氏が来日する際の共同発表の準備を行った。その際の渡航滞在費は，本学事振興基金によって賄われた。
・2019年12月：上記の準備を経て，Lee氏は12月に再度来日し，田中と共同で研究発表" Artikelproblem: Wie kommen Sprachen ohne Artikel aus?"を行った。この研究発表は，本研究の内容を直接扱ったものであるが，田中の慶應義塾大での学部生院生，その他日本滞在の若手研究者を中心としたおよそ20名の参加者に対して行われたものであった。また，Lee氏は，慶應義塾大学大学院の田中のゼミナール「言語学的言語哲学」に参加し，ゼミ参加の院生と活発な議論を行った。
本共同研究で，Lee氏と田中を中心として，日独の研究者がが数度にわたり集中的な議論をする機会となった。その際特筆すべきことは，従来の名詞句レベルの比較に終始していた「冠詞」の問題を，文全体の指示に対象を広げたということである。
The present project is an international cooperative research with a Japanese-speaking and a Chinese-speaking German linguist and deals with the function of the articles, by comparing between a language with articles (German) and languages without them (Chinese and Japanese). As both Chinese and Japanese lack articles, we analyze the nominal reference of each language with casting light not only on the nominal phrase itself, but also on the whole sentence containing it. In this regard, the notion of thetic and categorical judgment play an important role
The fellow researcher of this project, Ms. Dr. Mengchen Lee (LMU München), having got the research scholarship of Humboldt-Gesellschaft in Japan, had two-times research stay in Japan during the project period, and at her stays in Japan, we had fruitful discussion also with other German linguists in Japan, as we gave lectures on the themes as follows which are related to each other:

During her second stay at the Keio University, Ms. Dr. Lee attended at two seminars of German linguistics (Seminar on "articles" and on "language philosophy") and had an intensive discussion with undergraduate, graduate students and young scholars in Japan. The lectures and discussions were held in German.
