今年度は本研究に関連した複数の講演の企画、それから個人発表や調査もすることができた。まず、5月に本塾へWerner Sollors教授 (ハーバード大学)を招聘し、"Challenges of Diversity: An Introduction"と題した講演を行ってもらった。米国における人種・民族的な多様性の歴史と、その多様性が生みだしてきた課題やこれからの可能性について興味深い研究発表をしてもらい、50人近いオーディエンスと有意義な対話を行うことができた。続いて6月の日本アメリカ学会第53回年次大会のシンポジウム「『人種』をめぐる論争を問い直す」において、「21世紀アフリカ系アメリカ文学と「人種」の再定義——The Fire This Timeが可視化する「黒さ」の多様性と差別の現在」と題した発表を行った。この発表では、若手から中堅のアフリカ系アメリカ人作家、詩人やジャーナリストが共通で探究しているテーマに加え、彼ら、彼女らの問題意識やアプローチの多様性を論じた。その他にも7月の多民族研究学会において、Nahum Chandler教授（カリフォルニア大学アーバイン校）よる講演"Worlds of Color: Or, W. E. B. Du Bois's International Vision of the 1920s" の司会を務めた。また、8月には米議会図書館とハワード大学で資料調査を行い、大きな収穫を得ることができた。10月の黒人研究会およびニューヨーク大学で行われたシンポジウムでは、冷戦期および現代における舞踏と人種の関係についてそれぞれ異なる発表を行い、アフリカ系の舞踏家とも直接交流する機会に恵まれた。同月にAmerican Studies Associationの国際交流委員会の副委員長に就任したため、ハワイで開催された年次大会にも出席し、今後のトランスナショナルなアメリカ研究の促進に関する会議に参加した。今年度は他に二つの科研費プロジェクト（分担者枠）が採択されていたので、学事振興資金は3月の春休み中に米国でのリサーチに使用予定だったが、新型コロナウイルスのため断念した。そのため急遽、出張費用は今後の研究に必要であると思われる文献を入手することと、故障・不調が続いていた電子機器の購入に回した。
This year, I was able to organize a series of lectures, give talks and do researches on my current project. First of all, I invited Prof. Werner Sollors (Harvard) to give a talk at Keio on the challenges of diversity based on his latest book of the same title. In June, I gave a talk entitled "African American Literature in the Twenty-First Century and its Redefinition of 'Race': Diversity within Blackness as Articulated by The Fire This Time" during the Japanese Association for American Studies. In July, I moderated a talk given by Prof. Nahum Chandler (UC Irvine) during the annual meeting of the Multi-Ethnic Studies Association of Japan. The title of his lecture was "Worlds of Color: Or, W. E. B. Du Bois's International Vision of the 1920s." In August, I was able to conduct archival researches at the Library of Congress and Howard University in Washington, D.C. In October, I gave a couple of talks on race and butoh. The first one was during a meeting of The Japan Black Studies Association and the second during an event called "Butoh Next Symposium" held at CUNY. In the same month, I attended the American Studies Association's meeting in Hawaii as the vice-chair of the organization's International Committee and discussed future plans for transnationalizing American Studies. Since I was fortunate enough to receive two "Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research" for other related projects, I was saving this grant for my research trip in March 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I was forced to abandon it. Instead, I used the grant to acquire books necessary for my current research and also bought some new digital equipment to replace the old ones that were either broken or malfunctioning.
