2022年の５月にジョージ・フロイド事件（2020年5月）の2周年に合わせて米ミネソタ州ミネアポリスを訪れ関係者へのヒアリングを行った。また、カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスを訪れ、白人ナショナリストに面会し、コロナ禍の影響、特に海外とのネットワーキングの状況についてヒアリングを行った。2022年7月にはテキサス州ダラス市内や近郊で活動する白人ナショナリストにヒアリングを行い、ロサンゼルスと同様、コロナ禍の影響などについてヒアリングを行った。また、ブッシュ大統領記念図書館を訪れ、宗教ナショナリズムと白人の関係に関する歴史的資料を得ることができた。本来であれば、ヨーロッパでもヒアリング調査を行いたかったが、ウクライナ戦争の影響などによる航路の乱れや物価高により、今回は見送ることにした。その代わりに、白人ナショナリズムをより他の排外主義的なイデオロギーとの比較において把握するために、東南アジアにおける過激主義に関して調査することにした。2022年12月にタイ・バンコクを訪れ、タマサート大学やチュラロンコン大学の専門家と意見交換を行ったが、これは極めて意義深かった。アメリカのオルトライトの世界的展開についてよりよく理解するには、世界各地の他の過激主義や排外主義との比較を行う必要があることを痛感するとともに、今後の研究テーマを見つけることができた気がする。コロナ禍により、福澤基金の１年目では日本における白人の受容をめぐる歴史的事例を多く集めることができ、2年目はボストンやハワイで歴史的資料を集めることができた。そして、3年目はアメリカにおいて最新状況のアップデートが可能になったと同時、今後、より世界的なレベルに研究を発展させてゆくことができた。こうした3年間のデータを上手く繋げることで、従来にはない、ユニークな白人ナショナリズム理解が可能になると思う。その意味では、コロナ禍によって当初の研究計画の修正を余儀なくされたこともあながち悪いことばかりではなかったと言えよう。
In May of 2022, on the second anniversary of the George Floyd case (May 2020), he visited Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A., to conduct interviews with relevant officials. He also visited Los Angeles, California, to meet with white nationalists and interview them about the impact of the Corona disaster, especially the status of networking with foreign countries; in July 2022, he interviewed white nationalists operating in and near Dallas, Texas, as he did in Los Angeles, Hearings were conducted on the impact of the Corona disaster and other issues. They also visited the Bush Presidential Library and were able to obtain historical materials on the relationship between religious nationalism and whites. Originally, we would have liked to conduct the hearing survey in Europe as well, but due to disruptions in shipping routes and high prices caused by the war in Ukraine and other factors, we decided to forego the survey this time. Instead, we decided to investigate extremism in Southeast Asia in order to better understand white nationalism in comparison with other exclusionist ideologies. was extremely significant. I am keenly aware that in order to better understand the global development of American alt-right, it is necessary to make comparisons with other extremism and xenophobia around the world, and I feel that I have found a theme for future research. Due to the Corona disaster, we were able to collect many historical examples of the acceptance of whites in Japan in the first year of the Fukuzawa Foundation, and in the second year we were able to collect historical materials in Boston and Hawaii. In the third year, we were able to update the latest situation in the U.S., and at the same time, develop our research to a more global level. By successfully linking these three years of data, I believe we will be able to develop a unique understanding of white nationalism that has not been possible in the past. In this sense, the fact that we were forced to revise our original research plan due to the Corona disaster was not all bad.
