第3年度目にあたる2021年度も、慶應義塾のスポーツ史に関する資料の収集・分析を引き続き行った。本年度も、当初想定していた個人及び記念館所蔵の資料の出張調査は、新型コロナ流行の為に実施出来なかった。しかしながら、義塾で今まで収蔵していなかった昭和初期の野球雑誌等を収集調査することで、義塾野球部の特質を検討することが出来た。なお、都倉が中心となって、「エンジョイペースポール」を提唱した前田祐吉監督に関して、同時代の部員等からの聞き取り等も行い、腰本寿、三宅大輔、前田と受け継がれた、義塾の野球の特質をより浮き彫りにすることが出来た。また、義塾蹴球部草創期の中心メンバーであった松岡正男に関する一連の資料を入手出来たことも特筆すべきことである。また、福澤諭吉以来の健康観を考える上で不可欠な北里柴三郎博士に関しても、特にその周囲の医師、中でも従来余り注目されていなかった医師らについて検討を進めることで、北里の人物像をより立体的に把握することにも努めた。
本研究プロジェクトの成果の一端は、2022年度の福澤諭吉記念慶應義塾史展示館において開催の企画展「慶應野球と近代日本」において紹介することになっており、その為の準備も合わせて進めた。また。2017年に研究代表者・分担者が中心となって実施した「近代日本と慶應スポーツ」展と3年間に及ぶ本家級プロジェクトの成果の一部は、豊富な写真資料と関連資料、解説で構成する図録として出版する予定であり、その為の具体的な編集作業にも着手した。
一部の資料等は撮影しデジタル化すると共に、収集した資料は順次、本塾福澤研究センターに収蔵することにして、今後の展示と研究への活用を進めることにしている。
In FY2021, the third year of the project, we continued to collect and analyze materials related to Keio Sports history. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were not able to conduct the originally planned on-site survey of private collections and regional museum collections in various parts of Japan. However, we examined the characteristics of Keio Baseball by collecting and researching baseball magazines and other materials from the early Showa era. Interviews were also conducted with members of the baseball team when Yuukichi Maeda, who advocated Enjoy Baseball, was the manager. It should also be noted that many materials related to Masao Matsuoka, who was a key member of the Keio rugby team in its early days, were obtained. Based on this research project, an exhibition titled "Keio Baseball and Modern Japan" will be held at the Fukuzawa Memorial Keio History Museum in FY2022. Also. A book consisting of many photographs, related materials, and commentary will be published.
