本研究の目的は、多国籍企業の意思決定について、社会学の制度理論を使って明らかにすることであった。本研究では、進出国や地域による日本企業の海外現地法人のパフォーマンスへの影響について明らかにした。分析の結果、進出国は産業要因と同じ程度に現地法人のパフォーマンスに影響することを明らかにした。加えて、多国籍企業の進出や撤退に影響する要因について分析した。重要な発見として、多国籍企業の意思決定は、競合他社の行動に大きく影響を受けることを発見した。このような発見は、社会学的なアプローチは国際経営の研究にとってきわめて重要であることを示唆するものであった。
The aim of this study is to clarify the decision-making of multinational corporations (MNC) by using the institutional theory of sociology. This study analyze the effects of host country or area on performance of Japanese subsidiaries. The results show that the effect of host country is the same as that of industry. In addition, I examine the causes which affect the entry and exit decision of MNCs. As the important findings, this study reports the decision of MNCs is affected by that of competitors. These results suggest that the approach by sociology is very important for international studies.
