本研究を通して看護師は, ターミナル期に死の時期の予測, 家族が子どもの病状の悪さを受け入れるための働きかけ, 子どもと家族の希望を実現するための支援, よい思い出を残すための関わり, 適切な環境を作るための情報共有, 周囲の子どもの死の教育, 入院時期の判断という技術を用いていることがわかった。くわえて, ターミナルケアを行う中で, 実践能力に関わるストレスと, 自分が思い描く看護が実現できないことによるストレスが生じる可能性のあることがわかり, ケア目標の適切さの吟味, ストレスの自覚, チーム内での発見とサポート, 専門家によるサポートをはじめとする支援体制作りの必要性が示唆された。
This study found that during terminal care, nurses used their skills to predict the child's time of death, get the family to accept the worsening condition of their child, help the child and the family realize their wishes, allow for positive memories to be created, make a good terminal care environment by sharing information with the surrounding adults, teach the surrounding children about death, and to assess when the child should be hospitalized. In addition, it also became clear that while providing terminal care, the amount of stress related to the degree of professional skills and from not being able to do the nursing one intends. This suggests the necessity of creating a support system that tracks the appropriateness of the nurse's care objectives, the self-awareness of stress, the team's ability to discover stress and provide support, and the access to support from specialists.
