本研究は近世期の復古的潮流について、学問と芸術的実践とを包括的に指し示す〈学芸〉の観点から検討を加えたものである。本研究を通じて、18世紀後半の国学者・好古家である橋本経亮の旧蔵資料1200点の総体を初めて明らかにし、また目録及び展示図録を刊行した。また近世を代表する国学者である契沖の遺著を伝える「契沖著述稿本類」（重要文化財）の調査研究を行い、契沖自筆稿本の断簡をあらたに発見した。更に灘の豪商であった吉田家の好古活動に関する検討を行い、国立歴史民俗博物館での企画展に協力した。このように本研究は、自国のいにしえへに向けられた日本人の関心の多様なありようを、資料に基づいて実証的に解明してきた。
This study examines the restoration trend during the Edo period based on the mutual influence of scholarship and art. The first result of this study is the initial identification of the entire collection of 1,200 items left by Hashimoto Tsunesuke, a scholar and antiquarian from the late Edo period. The findings were published in a catalog and exhibition catalogue. The second accomplishment was the discovery of new autograph materials through research into the manuscripts of the national scholar Keichu, which have been designated as important cultural properties by the Japanese government. The third achievement was the clarification of the antiquities collecting activities of the Yoshida family, a wealthy merchant in Nada. In this regard, I collaborated in planning an exhibition at the National Museum of Japanese History. Through these efforts, this research has shed light on the diverse interests of the Japanese people in the Edo period with regard to their own country's past.
