本研究の成果は、多国籍企業のローカル・イノベーションからグローバル・イノベーションへの進展を実証的、理論的に検討し、その要因を明らかにしたことである。世界規模でのイノベーションを目的とした海外子会社の経営の特徴は学術的・実務的両面に解明が不十分であった。更に、海外現地でのイノベーションが先進国のみならず新興国でも進展する今日において、先進国を前提とした既存理論では説明が不十分であったことから、本研究では新たな理論構築を行い、演繹的データ解析手法をベースに、帰納法的、定性調査手法も用い、多面的な調査研究を行った。本研究での学術的知見を脱自国・自前主義を迫られる日本企業への実務的示唆も提示した。
The study identified the underlying conditions, mechanisms, and processes of transition from the local to global innovation by overseas subsidiaries of the MNCs. We highlighted the different characteristics of the local and global innovation at the conceptual, empirical and managerial levels. Furthermore, the study has shed light on the distinctive nature of global innovation in the context of the emerging economy, and has developed a conceptual model explaining the source of competitive advantages in the emergent economies. More specifically, we identified the conditions of knowledge creation and acquisition by overseas subsidiaries. Another significant contribution of the project pertains to the conceptualization of global innovation in the context of emerging economies. We also clarified mechanisms of local innovation in Asian emerging economies as well as global innovation by MNCs from Asian countries.
