近年ポスト・モダニズムの影響の下, 史料の証拠能力を否定し, 歴史を主観の紡ぐ物語と看做す発想が歴史学を蝕みつつある。本稿では, この「歴史ニヒリズム」の理論的根拠となっているソシュールの「恣意性の言語学」とその極端な亜種としてのデリダの言語観の批判的考察を通して, 「恣意性の言語学」の持つ問題性を指摘するとともに, それに代わり得る「歴史に開かれた言語観」をフムボルトの「非恣意性の言語学」を基に模索する。本稿はそのような言語哲学的考察を基礎とした「歴史ニヒリズム」批判であると同時に, 新たな歴史認識論構築の試みである。
Under the influence of Postmodernism an agnostic view of history is spreading into historical sciences. It denies a provable value of historical evidence in general and regards history as nothing more than a story, which every historian can construe arbitrarily. Analysing critically the problems of this historical nihilism, which draws on the Saussurean linguistics of arbitrariness as well as on Derrida's philosophy of différance, i. e. the radical variety of Saussure's approach, this study puts forward a realist epistemology of history based on Humboldt's non-arbitrary philosophy of language.
