Abstract |
As a raw material base for food to Japan, the Taiwanese economy experienced an increase in production of rice and sugar during the Japanese colonial period and thus discovered the importance of fertilizers, which have a decisive effect on agricultural production.
This study takes Taiwan's largest industry, the sugar industry, as a case study for explaining the supply–demand structure for fertilizers witnessed in the production of cane (sugar cane).
Specifically, this study discusses why the primary fertilizer applied was a peculiar compound fertilizer, while also examining, based on the trade relations within the Japanese Empire, from which regions the fertilizer was supplied.
