【目的】本論の目的は，Birger Hjørlandが図書館情報学研究において主張しているドメイン分析を支え，かつ，彼が求めたい実在論的な要求を満たすが，何を存在者として認めるかについては異なる存在論がありうることを示すことである。
【方法】Hjørlandのドメイン分析および存在論に関する文献を，Hilary PutnamおよびMarkus Gabrielの文献と比較し，その類似点と相違点に着目して文献分析を行った。
【結果】Hjørlandは，知識の組織化についての研究におけるドメイン分析の重要性を指摘する。ドメイン分析とは，複数のドメインを認めそれぞれのドメインでの社会的・歴史的視点を重視する研究方法である。またその一方で，Hjørlandは図書館情報学研究において相対主義や主観主義を避けるべきだと考え，存在論としてプラグマティックな実在論と物的一元論を主張する。プラグマティックな実在論とは，何を存在すると見なすかは理論やパラダイムに依存している一方で，われわれは自由に実在を生み出すことはできず，理論の受入の際には事象をよりよく説明できるというプラグマティックな要素が必要であると考えるものである。物的一元論とは，物的存在者のみを認めるという考えである。しかし，Hjørlandが目指しているような，社会的・歴史的視点を重視したうえで相対主義や主観主義を避けるというドメイン分析を支持できる存在論は他にもありうる。その候補として，Putnamの存在論やGabrielの存在論がある。特に，観察者のいない世界でも観察者しかいない世界でもない実在を主張し複数主義をとるGabrielの新しい実在論は，その候補になりうる。一方，Hjørlandの主張する物的一元論とドメイン分析がどのように関係するかはまだ検討される必要がある。
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to show that there can be different ontologies that support the domain analysis that Birger Hjørland argues for in library and information science research and that meet the realist demands he wants to seek, but differ as to what is recognized as an entity.
Methods: This paper is a literature-based analysis, comparing Hjørland's literature on domain analysis and ontology with that of Hilary Putnam and Markus Gabriel, focusing on their similarities and differences.
Results: Hjørland notes the importance of domain analysis in knowledge organization research. Domain analysis is a research method that recognizes multiple domains and emphasizes the social and historical perspectives in each domain. However, Hjørland avoids relativism and subjectivism in library and information science research and advocates pragmatic realism and physical monism. Pragmatic realism is the view that while what we consider to exist depends on a theory or paradigm, we cannot freely create reality, and the acceptance of a theory requires a pragmatic element to better explain events. Physical monism recognizes only physical entities. However, there may be other ontologies that support domain analysis and emphasize social and historical perspectives while avoiding relativism and subjectivism, as Hjørland aims to do. Candidates include Putnam's ontology and Gabriel's ontology. In particular, Gabriel's pluralist new realism, which argues for a reality that is neither without observers nor with only observers, could be a promising candidate. However, the relationship of domain analysis to Hjørland's claim of physical monism remains to be examined.
