事業計画に従って、今年度は、黄表紙の絵・文の特質について考えた。成果は以下の通り。
1、所蔵機関が公開するデジタル画像を使ったデータベースの設計を行った。このデータベースの目指すところは、研究成果を盛り込み、かつこのジャンルの絵や文章を通史的に見るツールとなる形である。今後も引き続きデータベースの形を模索したい。
2、佐藤至子・ラウラ　モレッティ編著の論文集に対して、黄表紙の持つ絵と文章の表現方法について考察した論文「Multimodality at work Kibyōshi」を提出した。具体的には、黄表紙の画風の変遷、一般に複雑とされる紙面の構造、作品の構造、次の時代の様式との違いについて述べ、特に、黄表紙の特徴である明るく楽しい作風の理由を同時代の文学思潮に基づいて指摘した。（出版時期は2023〜24年頃を予定）
3、ライデン大学における国際的ワークショップ「Healing the People:Popularizing and Printing Medicine in Edo Japan」（コーディネーター：アンジェリカ　コッホ）にて「疱瘡絵本が出版される時―十返舎一九『軽口噺』の再版から考える可能性」と題する発表を行う。申請時には、2021年夏に開催されるはずだった研究発表会が、新型コロナウイルスの流行により、2022年5月に延期されることとなった。従って本成果報告時には、まだ発表を終えていないが、発表原稿・スライドは準備済みである。具体的には、十返舎一九が作成した疱瘡（天然痘）の患者への見舞いの品として作られた疱瘡絵本『軽口噺』の再版状況から、麻疹流行との関わり、渓斎英泉が絵を担当した続編『子宝山』の出版年の修正、疱瘡に効くとされた半田稲荷の行事との関わりの可能性を指摘した。またその内容から、疱瘡神を描いた浮世絵として広く知られている歌川国芳の「為朝と疱瘡神」について、従来の研究で疱瘡神と説明されていたものが、罹患した子供であることを示し、通説に対する疑義を提示した。
In accordance with the project plan, this year I considered the characteristics of the illustrations and text of kibyōshi (the yellow cover books). The results are as follows.
1, I designed a database using digital images made available by the holding institutions. The goal of this database is to incorporate research results and to provide a tool for viewing illustrations and texts of this genre from a historical perspective. I will continue to explore the form of the database in the future.

2, I submitted a chapter entitled "Multimodality at work Kibyōshi," which discusses the kibyōshi genre's expression through both illustrations and texts. The content of the paper describes the changes in kibyōshi's illustration style, the structure of the pages, which is generally considered complex, the structure of the work, and the differences in style over time. In particular, the paper points out the reasons for the bright and joyful style characteristic of kibyōshi, based on the literary thought of the same period. (Anthology of research papers "the kusazōshi volume" edited by Yukiko Sato and Laura Moretti. Publication date is scheduled for around 2023-24.)

3, Presentation entitled "Smallpox Illustrated Books and Their Publication — What we can learn from Jippensha Ikku's Karuguchibanashi " at the international workshop "Healing the People: Popularizing and Printing Medicine in Edo Japan" at Leiden University (coordinator: Angelica Koch. Postponed to May 2022 due to coronavirus). Based on the status of the reprinting of the smallpox illustrated book "Karuguchibanashi" created by Jippensha Ikku as a gift for patients with smallpox, the presentation pointed out the publication's relation to the measles epidemic, the correction of the publication date of the sequel "Kodakarayama" with illustrations by Keisai Eisen, and its possible relation to events at Handa Inari Shrine, which were believed to be effective against smallpox. In addition, regarding Utagawa Kuniyoshi's "Tametomo and the God of Smallpox," which is widely known as an ukiyoe picture print depicting the god of smallpox, I showed from the contents of this "Karuguchibanashi" that what had been described as the god of smallpox in previous studies, in fact was a child who had contracted the smallpox disease.
