本年度は、当初の計画通り、現代認識論に関する二冊の本を出版した。一冊は8月に出版された『現代認識論入門　----ゲティア問題から徳認識論まで』（勁草書房）であり、久しく待望されたこの分野の入門書として読書界から歓迎を受け、同出版社の9月売り上げランキング1位を獲得した。もう一冊は9月末に出版されたジョン・グレコ著『達成としての知識　----認識的規範性に対する徳認識論的アプローチ』（勁草書房）であり、これもこの分野の専門書の貴重な新訳として歓迎された。特に前者は、大学の哲学系の講義で用いられることを念頭に書かれているので、今後長くテキストとして使用され、日本における哲学教育に一定の貢献をなすことが期待されている。
徳認識論からアプローチする現代認識論研究としては、今年度はアーネスト・ソウザの著作を中心に、「安全性」条件についての検討を行った。従来の認識論は、認識とは対象を正しく受け取ることであるといった、レセプターモデルに強く影響されてきたが、ソウザが擁護する「安全性」条件は、認識主体の側に正しい認識を生み出す能力を要求するものであり、従来の認識論や認識的規範性に再考を促すものとなっている。またこれは、中世の認識論において、可知的形象だけでなく「言葉 (verbum)」が重視されてきたことも想起させる。すなわち、もちろん認識は幻想ではないので、主体が勝手に生み出したものではないが、しかし、単に対象から情報を受け取るだけでは、認識は成立しない。そこには認識主体の側からの能動的な働きが必要とされる。これは哲学史のあらゆる場面で強調されてきたことではあるが、その強調の意味を評価する際の視点を与えるものでありうる。このように、「安全性」条件は、今後の研究の方向を強く示唆するものとなっている。
This year, I published two books on contemporary epistemology, as I had originally planned. One was "GENDAI NINSHIKIRON NYUMON (Introduction to Contemporary Epistemology), Keiso Shobo publisher, published in August, which was welcomed by the readers as a long-awaited introduction to the field, and ranked first in the publisher's September sales ranking.The other book, "TASSEI TO SHITENO CHISHIKI (Achieving Knowledge)" by John Greco (Keiso Shobo), published at the end of September, was also welcomed as a valuable new translation of a specialist book in this field. The former, in particular, was written with the intention of being used in university courses on philosophy, so it is expected to be used as a textbook for a long time to come and to make a certain contribution to philosophy education in Japan.

As for the study of modern epistemology approached from virtue epistemology, this year I focused on the works of Ernest Sosa and examined the "security" condition. Conventional epistemology has been strongly influenced by the receptor model, in which knowledge means receiving an object correctly, but the "safety" condition that Sosa advocates requires the cognitive subject to have the ability to create correct knowledge, and it encourages us to reconsider conventional epistemology and cognitive normativity. This also reminds us of the fact that in medieval epistemology, the verbum as well as the intelligible species was emphasized. In other words, knowledge is not an illusion, of course, and it is not something that is created by the subject on its own. But there is a need for active action on the part of the cognizing subject. This is something that has been emphasized at every stage of the history of philosophy, but it can give us a perspective from which to evaluate the meaning of this emphasis. Thus, the "safety" condition strongly suggests a direction for future research.
