本研究は、レヴィナスとリクール、アーレントにおける罪と責任のあいだの連関の内実を解明しようとするものである。20世紀においては、道徳の崩壊・責任主体の不在・個人の罪を問う法的仕組みの妥当性などが問われるようになり、様々な思想家によって責任という概念が取り上げ直された。しかしながら、誰が、何に対して、どのような場合に、責任を負うのか、あるいは、罪を償うよう求められるのかについては、個々の思想家によって規定の仕方が大きく異なる。レヴィナスに関しては、「責任」という根本概念が「罪障性」によって多大な負荷をかけられていると批判されることがあるが、同時代の他の理論においては罪と責任はどのように関連付けられ、あるいは区別されているのか。この問題を追究することで、従来の倫理学、神学、政治学、法学等の垣根を超えて思考する現代の思想家たちの共通点と差異を浮き彫りにするという見通しの下に、本研究は開始された。
初年度は、原典読解研究に基づいて、罪を背負うことと責任を担うことの区別に関する三者のモデル分けを行い、それぞれの特徴を明らかにした（レヴィナスの「罪先行型責任理解」・アーレントの「狭義の罪、広義の責任理解」リクールの「原罪と罪の区別に基づく責任理解」）。これを踏まえ2019年度は、各々の思想家と一神教の伝統との接点に着目し、三者の違いの背景にある(1)神の恩寵と人間の自由意志の関係、(2)倫理的行為が展開される実存者の時間性、(3)人類の複数性に対する解釈の違いを究明した。これにより、三者三様の「責任」と「罪」の規定の背景に、宗教と倫理、政治社会の次元の区分けにかかわる議論一般の枠組み上の違いがあることが明らかになった（この点に関し論文を執筆予定）。また、こうした差異が生まれた背景を追究するなかで、法的・道徳的・政治的・形而上学的な罪に区別を設けるヤスパースの枠組みがリクールとアーレントの議論に大きな影響を与えていることが判明した。両者の発想に根底的な枠組みを把握し、それと比してのレヴィナス流の「責任」と「罪」の区別の特異性を明らかにするには、ヤスパースの議論の詳細な検討が必要であり、本研究を継続的に発展させることが求められる。
This comparative study of Levinas, Ricoeur, and Arendt attempts to clarify the relationship between the notion of 'Responsibility' and 'Culpability' as well as their backgrounds in each thinker. During this academic year, we clarified how some of the core conceptions in the tradition of monotheism affect their ways of thinking. Especially, we focused on the motifs such as (1) connections between human free will and God's grace, (2) views on temporality in which ethical actions take place, and (3) the plurality and the unity of humanity, and pointed out different frameworks on treating the religious, the ethical, the political, and the social. Through the analysis, we also realized the importance of differentiation of criminal, moral, political, and metaphysical guilt in Jaspers's existential philosophy for Ricoeur and Arendt. In order to find out the fundamental frameworks of Ricoeur and Arendt, and to understand Levinas's peculiarity in comparison to them, we need to analyze the argument in Jaspers closely and use the result for continuous development of this research.
