現代認識論は、ゲティア問題に端を発する知識の本性問題から、認識的正当化にかんする証拠の構造や価値の問題を経て、徳認識論と呼ばれる特徴的な外在主義へと発展した。また、近年急速に拡大した知識主張の文脈依存問題や、知識第一主義などの新しいアプローチも加わり、現代認識論は哲学の他の分野との関係を深めつつ複雑化している。今年度の研究は、現在の徳認識論の代表的な擁護者であるジョン・グレコの著作を詳しく検討しつつ、これらさまざまな問題について理解を深めることに注力した。
今年度は三田の哲学と倫理学専攻の二年生以上の学部生を対象として「知識の哲学」という講義を開き、その講義内容とリンクさせることで、半強制的に原稿を書き進めた。その結果、今年度は英米系現代認識論についての一般向け入門書と、ジョン・グレコの著作の翻訳という二冊の原稿をほぼ完成させることができた。
この成果は、来年度、二冊の単行本として出版される予定である。一つは『現代認識論入門（仮題）』であり、日本では十分に知られているとは言えないこの分野の数少ない入門書となる予定である。もう一冊は、ジョン・グレコ著『達成としての知識（仮題）』である。本書には、現在の徳認識論の擁護者による現代認識論のさまざまなテーマについての興味深い考察が盛り込まれているが、この翻訳によって、この分野の議論に日本の研究者がよりアクセスしやすくなることが期待される。
Contemporary analytic epistemology has evolved from the intrinsic nature of knowledge, which originated in the Gettier problem, to a characteristic externalism called virtue epistemology through the structure of evidence and value problem of epistemological justification. Modern epistemology is also becoming more complex while deepening its relations with other fields of philosophy, with the addition of new approaches such as the context-dependent problem of knowledge ascription and the knowledge-first epistemology, which have expanded rapidly in recent years. This year's research focused on deepening my understanding of these various issues, with a closer look at the writings of John Greco, a leading advocate of current virtue epistemology.
This year, a lecture titled "Philosophy of Knowledge" was opened for undergraduate students in the second year of Mita's philosophy and ethics majors, and by linking my writing the manuscripts to the contents of the lecture, I forced myself to write these manuscripts. As a result, I have almost completed two manuscripts this year, a general introduction to English-American modern epistemology and a translation of John Greco's work.
The results will be published in two books next year. One is "Introduction to Modern Epistemology" (tentative title), which will be one of the few introductory books in this field that are not well known in Japan. The other is John Greco's "Achieving Knowledge" (tentative title). This book contains interesting insights on the various themes of modern epistemology by advocates of current virtue epistemology. It is hoped that Japanese researchers will have better access to the discussions by this book.
