郷土作家カール・ハインリヒ・ヴァッガールのクリスマスに関するテクスト、とりわけ「一年で最も静かな時」Das ist die stillste Zeit im Jahrを中心とした文献読解を進めた。本作は「変わらないもの」「繰り返されるもの」を主要モティーフとしており、アウストロ・ファシズム～ナチス時代の「不都合な過去」を超えて、現在を不変の過去へと接続しようとする意図が見て取れる。またヴァッガールが深く関与したザルツブルク待降節音楽祭が、同様に1945年までの過去を締め出す形で新たに文化的な「伝統」を作り出すことに寄与しており、そこにはナチス協力の過去を持つヴァッガール自身が新たな文学的地位を築くという個人的動機も背景にあったことが示された。
また2018年は聖歌Stille Nacht（きよしこの夜）の初演200年の記念の年であり、これを機にドイツ語圏で発行された多数の書籍について、主に歌の成立史が一般向けにどのように提示され、どのように意味付けられているかを分析した。また同年にはザルツブルクを中心に、上記待降節音楽祭を含め多くの記念イベント（演劇、特別展）が開催されたため、12月に現地でこれらの取材を行った。かつてに比べ、多くの展示や書籍が歌の成立をめぐる伝説やフィクションよりも、歴史的事実を尊重している一方、この歌を「平和の歌」として政治的意味を付与し、一定のイデオロギーの下に称揚する例も多くみられる。小さな村と名もなき作者というローカルな成立の文脈を起点として、それが全世界の「平和」の歌となったというインターナショナルな意味付けへと拡張される傾向が強く、それは戦後オーストリアが国際社会において「平和で文化的な国」を自認、演出してきたことと無関係ではない。以上の成果を現在論文としてまとめており、2019年秋までに発表する予定である。
In the research, texts by the Heimatdichter Karl Heinrich Waggerl about Christmas were analyzed, especially "This is the quietest time of the year". This has as its main motive "the unchanging" or "repeating," which implies Waggerl's intention to go beyond the "awkward" past and to connect the present with the unchanged past. Furthermore, the Salzburg Advent Singing, which Waggerl supported, helped to re-establish a cultural "tradition" by excluding the past until 1945. There was also the personal intention of Waggerl beheind, who was supported during the war by the Nazi government, to gain a new literary standpoint after the war.
The year 2018 was the jubilee of the Christmas carol "Silent Night, Holy Night". In the research, several books that appeared for the 200th year were analyzed to show how the birth of the song is discribed and how it is evaluated. This year there were also many events related to the song, especially in Salzburg, so I traveled there in December and visited some exhibitions and theaters. On the one hand, more historical reality is considered today than legend or fictional descriptions, but at the same time it often happens that the song is given political meaning as a "peace song" and ideologically praised. Starting from the regional context of the small village and the nameless authors, the song is interpreted at the end as something international, as a song of the "peace" for the whole world. This is related to the fact that Austria has tried to appeal itself in the international society after the war as a peaceful cultural nation.
These results will be published in an essay until autumn 2019.
