野口寧斎（慶応3年〈1867〉―明治38年〈1905〉）は、明治中期を代表する漢詩人であり、当時の文学家や学者たちと交流したことで知られる。この寧斎について、申請者はこれまで継続的に調査を行ってきたが（合山林太郎『幕末・明治期における日本漢詩文の研究』和泉書院、2014年、第四部など）、その後半生、すなわち、明治30年代の彼の事績については、十分な検討がなされていなかった。本研究では、明治30年代において、寧斎と親しい関係にあった内藤湖南や畑山呂泣らに関して、寧斎との交渉が発生した経緯や思想的な近似性などについて、雑誌『亜細亜』の記事などを参照しながら考察した。また、寧斎と清の文人文廷式との交流について、雑誌『百花欄』収録された書簡の翻刻や、雑誌『太陽』に掲載された寧斎の文章などを分析し、両者の交友を支えた白岩龍平（子雲）らの動向も視野に入れながら、考察した。さらに、寧斎の蔵書構築に関して、現在、早稲田大学図書館に寧斎文庫として収蔵される寧斎旧蔵書と、関西大学図書館に残る寧斎の書籍購入に関するメモなどを対照させつつ、書籍入手の具体的な過程を追い、かつ、寧斎が入手した漢籍をどのように学んだかについて分析した。その際、清に滞在して、寧斎の書籍購入を助けた牧放浪や伊東壺渓らの事績についても調査した。なお、このような寧斎の活動を把握するため、近代の文化史に関する理論的な研究や、明治期の東アジア漢文学をめぐる諸潮流についての情報を収集した。以上の研究の成果については、その一部を、2019年8月28-30日に台湾・中央研究院で開催される明清研究國際學術研討會において、「文人交流與書籍收購：日本漢詩人野口寧齋與清末中國」という題で報告を行う予定である（パネル「人・物・文──二十世紀前後中、日漢文學的越境交流與互動傳播」〈趙偵宇氏代表〉の一部として、パネル受理済）。
This study demonstrates how Sinitic poets in Japan absorbed the knowledge of classical Chinese literature and developed their own style of poetry by analyzing the works of Noguchi Neisai (1867-1905), one of the most influential kanshi (Sinitic poetry or Classical Chinese poetry) poets in the mid Meiji era. The actual situation of how Neisai collected books published in China was clarified by obtaining information from the letters written to him by his friends and from his collections presently stored in the library of Waseda University. The relationship between Neisai and the famous sinologist Naitō Konan (1866-1934) was determined through the depiction of their mutual exchanges in their thoughts. An overall research on Sinitic literature in the Meiji period, comprising the works of amateur poets including political activists and entrepreneurs, was also conducted.
