本研究では、申請者が開発した学外での社会学的質的調査と学内の授業での討論・文献購読等を連動させて学生の対話力・想像力を向上させるアクティブ・ラーニング型教育モデルに改良を加えて実践し、その有効性を検証した。
申請者が担当する複数の少人数科目を受講する大学生は、①社会福祉法人青丘社（川崎市）が実施する、生活保護受給家庭の中学生のための学習支援教室、②横浜市国際交流協会が運営する鶴見国際交流ラウンジにおける、外国につながる中学生・高校生・若者のための学習支援教室や地域の居場所づくり活動、③NPO法人多文化共生教育ネットワークかながわ（Me-net）が神奈川県の助成事業として行う、県立川崎高校における生徒のキャリア支援活動である「校内カフェ」のいずれかに、半年から1年間、毎週1回ボランティアとして参加した。特に②と③においては、活動の企画・運営の中心を大学生が担った。その結果、大学生と複雑な背景をもつ子ども・若者のあいだに信頼関係と社会関係資本、ネットワークが形成される様子が観察できた。
大学生は現場での経験をフィールドノートに記述し、他の大学生、各支援団体のスタッフ、そして申請者（塩原）のあいだで共有した。大学での授業では、フィールドノートの内容と課題文献を結びつけて議論することで、学問的文献の内容を具体的に理解するとともに、現場で起こっている社会現象の含意を学生がより深く考察し、そこで出会う自分とは異なる人々への想像力を深める様子が観察された。いっぽう支援現場では、大学生は子ども・若者とのつながりをから得られた気づきを各団体のスタッフと定期的に議論し、より良い支援の実践のための提案や制度改革を学生が積極的に行った。それにより学生のプレゼンテーション力・コミュニケーション力の向上がみられ、支援団体のスタッフも予想外の気づきや示唆を得ることができた。
In this project I aimed to develop and examine the active learning education model for facilitating students' ability of dialogue and imagination towards the society, combining sociological qualitative researches outside university campus and discussion and text readings in the class. Students of Keio University who participated in my seminar and tutorial classes joined volunteer activities in (1) study support classes for junior high school students from households in poverty and receiving the public life support, organized by Seikyusha in Kawasaki, (2) study support activities for junior and senior high school students from foreign backgrounds, and community activities co-organized with multicultural youths, at Tsurumi International Lounge organized by Yokohama International Association, (3) "high school café" activities as a career assistance scheme for high school students in Kanagawa Prefectural High School, conducted by Tabunka Kyosei Education Network Kanagawa. They participated in each activity every week, for 6 month – 1 year. In particular, the university students coordinated the operations of (2) (3). As a result, they could build rapport, social capital and network with children and youths of various and complicated backgrounds.
The university students wrote field notes of each activity every time, and they were shared among other students, staff members of support organizations and me. In the class, I required them to combine and discuss the realities they experienced in the field and the knowledge on the textbooks. As a result, they could understand not only the academic knowledge but also the implications of social phenomenon they experienced in the field. They also strengthened their imagination towards people they meet there. On the other hand, the university students discuss the fact and situation the children and youths were facing with staff members of the support organizations. Through the discussion and recommendations for better support practices, the presentation and communication skills of the students were improved.
