本研究の最終的な目標は、飛騨高山の宗門改帳を史料とし、近世都市の人口と家族を歴史人口学の手法を用いて解明することである。近世都市の史料は残存しているものが非常に少ない。しかも、この史料は、約100年間に及び、欠年もない。歴史人口学および家族史研究にとって、大変貴重な史料なのである。この史料は、慶應義塾大学名誉教授速水融先生のもとで、マイクロフィルム化され、千葉大学名誉教授故佐々木陽一郎先生のもとで長年にわたり分析がなされてきた。2017年佐々木先生が急逝され、先生のご遺志により基礎シート（BDS）は慶應義塾大学岡田研究室に移され、研究を引き継ぐことになった。
先生の作成された基礎シートは劣化しており、さらに不備が発見されたため、研究は初めからやり直すことになった。本研究の一連の流れは、以下のとおりである。まず、このデジタル化された宗門改帳から歴史人口学の手法にのっとり基礎シート（BDS）を作成する。次に、基礎シートをパソコンに入力し、データベースを作成する。データベースが完成した段階で、基本的な人口指標（出生・死亡・移動）と家族指標（世帯規模・世帯構成）の分析を行う。膨大な時間とマンパワーを必要とする研究になる。
本年は、昨年マイクロフィルムをデジタル化した飛騨高山の宗門改帳（簡易製本504冊分）の目録を作成した。目録によると、壱之町の宗門改帳54年分、弐之町99年分、三之町7年分の宗門改帳が存在する。史料の中で、最も残存期間の長い弐之町の宗門改帳から基礎シートを作成することにし、作業を開始した。
The goal of this study is to analyze the population and families of early modern cities using the methods of historical demography. The historical source of this study is the shūmon aratame chō (SAC) of Hidatakayama. There is almost no remaining SAC of the early modern city. However, SAC for over approximately 100 years have been maintained in Hidatakayama. This historical records is very valuable to historical demography and family sociology.
These valuable historical records were converted to microfilm by Professor Emeritus Akira Hayami of Keio University. Then, the late Professor Emeritus Yoichiro Sasaki of Chiba University created and analyzed basic data sheets (BDS). Professor Sasaki passed away suddenly in 2017, and according to his will these historical records were moved to the Okada Research Laboratory at Keio University. The applicant has taken over the research in light of the aforementioned circumstances.
This year, I created a list of SAC from Hidatakayama that I digitized from microfilm format last year (504 volumes using simple bookbinding methods). The list indicates that there are 54 years of SAC for Ichinomachi, 99 years of SAC for Ninomachi, and 7 years of SAC for Sannomachi. I then set to the task of creating basic data sheets (BDS) for the Ninomachi SAC, the longest-preserved records in the list.
