春(2017年4月)に山口情報芸術センターYCAMバイオ・リサーチと福岡の九州大学を訪問し, 本年度のサンプリング計画の打ち合わせと予備的なサンプリングを実施した。
夏季サンプリングとして, 2017年6月21日Global City Sampling Day (http://metasub.org/city-sampling-day/)に, 日本の各都市(帯広, 仙台, 鶴岡, 東京, 千葉, 藤沢, 山口, 福岡)の建造環境からサンプリングを実施し, Weill Cornell Medicineへサンプルを送付した。
2017年7月18〜20日にスウェーデンのストックホルムで開催された第3回MetaSUB会議において日本の活動を報告した(http://metasub.org/meetings-2017/)。2017年7月22〜23日にチェコ共和国のプラハで開催されたCAMDA2017会議に参加し, 都市微生物群集メタゲノムのコドン使用の多様性を解析した結果について発表した(Suzuki H. "Codon usage diversity in city microbiomes", CAMDA/ISMB 2017 Conference http://camda2017.bioinf.jku.at/doku.php)。
建造環境における細菌の比較ゲノム解析に関する論文(Nancy Merino, Shu Zhang, Masaru Tomita, and Haruo Suzuki "Comparative Genomics of Bacteria Commonly Identified in the Built Environment")を執筆し, Microbiomeジャーナルに投稿した。ジャーナルの編集者から審査結果のメールを受け取り, 査読者のコメントを参考にして論文の修正を行っている。
冬季サンプリングとして, 日本の各都市(2017年12月21日に山口YCAMの施設, 2018年1月20日に品川駅周辺の自動販売機, 2018年2月2日に東京農業大学, 2018年2月8日に仙台市の駅と東北大学, 2018年2月21日に慶應義塾大学湘南藤沢キャンパス)においてサンプリングを実施し, Weill Cornell Medicineへサンプルを送付した。
In spring (April, 2017), I visited YCAM Bio Research - Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media [YCAM] (http://www.ycam.jp/en/projects/ycam-bio-research/) and Kyushu University in Fukuoka to discuss this year's sampling plan and conduct preliminary sampling.
In summer (June 21, 2017 Global City Sampling Day http://metasub.org/city-sampling-day/), we collected samples from built environments in several cities in Japan (Obihiro, Sendai, Tsuruoka, Tokyo, Chiba, Fujisawa, Yamaguchi, and Fukuoka), and sent these samples to Weill Cornell Medicine.
I attended the 3rd Annual Conference on Metagenomics and Metadesign of the Subways and Urban Biomes (MetaSUB) held on July 18-20, 2017, in Stockholm, Sweden to report our achievements in Japan (http://metasub.org/meetings-2017/). Then, I participated in the 16th Annual International Conference on Critical Assessment of Massive Data Analysis (CAMDA) on July 22-23, 2017 in Prague, Czech Republic to present the result of analyzing codon usage diversity in city microbiomes (CAMDA/ISMB 2017 Conference http://camda2017.bioinf.jku.at/doku.php).
We submitted a paper on "Comparative genomes of bacteria common in construction environment" to Microbiome Journal (https://microbiomejournal.biomedcentral.com). We are now revising our manuscript according to the peer review comments.
In winter, we collected samples from built environments in several cities in Japan (Yamaguchi YCAM on December 21, 2017 ; vending machines around Shinagawa station on January 20, 2018 ; Tokyo University of Agriculture on February 2, 2018 ; subway stations and Tohoku University in Sendai on February 8, 2018 ; Keio University Shonan Fujisawa Campus on February 21, 2018) and sent these samples to Weill Cornell Medicine.
