Abstract
The works sets out to investigate registration in activity courses of physical education. The object of the investigation was 3, 500 university students who were randomly selected (Returned valid responses were 1,001 students). The investigation period was from July to August in 1997. The questionnaires were delivered and collected by mail. The results are as follows. (1) Registration percentage of activity courses in physical education was approximately 60%. (2) With regard to the necessity of activity courses in physical education, 7% of the students had negative viewpoints. (3) Among the reasons for not registering in activity courses in physical education, both males and females responded "because of the time conflict in the time table, " " because it is not required, " and "because I have no desire to registering in it" with higher percentage. Also it became clear that the reason for not registering in the class for male students was related to the number of credits in activity courses in physical education and for female students was related to their circumstances. In addition, female students' attitude toward practical skills in physical education seemed to be passive. (4) The reasons for registering in activity courses in physical education for both male and female students were "to have fun, " "to satisfy the requirement" and "to solve short amount of exercise." In addition, m ale students attitude toward activity courses in physical education showed their desire to register in the class to get exercise. (5) Among students who registered in the class for credits required for the graduation, most of male students registered in the class to participate in a team sport whereas most of female students registered in the class to play an individual sport. Many of students who registered for the free class tended to register in the tennis class. Most of the first sport class registered were golf and new sports both for females and males. (6) The degree of satisfaction in activity courses in physical education showed higher levels of satisfaction for software aspects such as the content of the class activity, et c. and lower levels of satisfaction for hardware aspects such as incidental facilities and exercise facilities, etc. The levels of satisfaction regarding activity courses in physical education were higher in both males and females. However, comparing the levels of satisfaction in males and females, females were found to be more satisfied with activity courses in physical education. (7) Demands for the class content and increasing the number of sports in activity courses in physical education were higher for both males and females. Among males, demands were placed on credits whereas among females demands were placed on environment and procedures etc. for registering in activity courses physical education. (8) Those who responded that they continue activity courses in physical education which they registered were 74% and 63% for males and females respectively.
