本研究は、日本における選挙研究のアポリアである選挙区の形成と展開の構造を、理論、歴史、計量、GIS の手法を複合的に用いて検討することで明らかにし、その成果を現下の選挙制度論と発展途上国における制度構築に資することを目的として3年計画でスタートした。
まず着手したのは、1890年、1900年、1920年、1925年、1946年、1947年、1993年の7回に及ぶ選挙区改編のデータを作成したことである。特にこれを旧藩時代のデータから連続して分析できるようにした。そのうえで、これらのデータを用いた研究の可能性を追求し、歴史、地域、国家レベルの研究を進め、個別研究の可能性を切り開いた。
This study is initiated as a three-year project with the aim of clarifying the structure of the formation and development of electoral districts in Japan, an aporia of electoral research, by examining it through a combined use of theoretical, historical, quantitative, and GIS methods, and to contribute the results to the current theory of electoral systems and to the construction of systems in developing countries.
The first step was to compile data on sevenreorganizations of electoral district in 1890, 1900, 1920, 1925, 1946, 1947, and 1993. In particular, this was done so that the data could be analyzed consecutively from the han-clan period in Edo era. We then explored the possibility of using these data to conduct research at the historical, regional, and national levels, opening up the possibility of individual studies.
