余暇は一般的な理解のみならず, 歴史研究の認識においても, 現在, 「私」の問題と位置づけられている。特に, ドイツの二つの独裁体制, ナチス体制と東ドイツ・SED体制を扱った研究においては, 政治権力が余暇の組織化に成功していたとすれば, 全体主義的体制を実現していたことの証明になるとみなされて検討がなされてきた。この議論の前提には, 余暇は消費行動と結びついた個々の利益を実現するものとする見方が存在している。本稿は余暇に対する歴史的な認識変化を再検討しながら, ドイツ現代史において余暇を「公」の問題として位置づける意義を明らかにする。
Today's general understanding and scholarly views consider leisure as a private issue. Studies regarding two dictatorships in modern German history —Nazis and East German regime— consider that a success for the organization of leisure by states would prove the realization of the totalitarian regime. This recognition supposes that leisure is beneficial only for an individual and a private interest linked to consumption. However, leisure has evolved as a public character from the historical perspective. This paper suggests that studies on two German dictatorships would adapt this understanding for the ordinary life in each era.
