日本の生命倫理ははたして「倫理」と呼ぶにふさわしいものなのか。本稿ではこの問いを, (1)哲学者コント＝スポンヴィルの「四つの秩序」論を参照枠組みとしながら, (2)日本で生命倫理が語られるようになる1980年代以降だけでなく, その「前史」にまで遡って歴史的に検討する。それにより, 生命倫理は「秩序の混同」に陥っているがゆえに「倫理」たりえていないことが示されるとともに, その「前史」には別の道もありえたことが示唆される。
Is it appropriate to refer to bioethics in Japan as "ethics"? 
This study discusses this question, (1) using the framework of reference from the philosopher Comte–Sponville’s "four order" theory, (2) looking not only at post-1980s history, when bioethics became a topic in Japan, but also going back to its "prehistory."
Thus, while showing that bioethics does not fulfill the demands of "ethics" as it falls into "confusion of order," this study suggests that, in its "prehistory," a distinct path was also possible.
