| Abstract |
日本では20 世紀初頭になると, かつて1880–90年代に頻発したコレラ流行ほど激烈な爆発的流行は下火になったが, 急性感染症の突発的な流行自体がなくなったわけではなかった。本稿では事例として, 1914(大正3)年に東日本を襲った発疹チフス流行に注目する。その伝播リスクの所在を検討する作業をつうじ, 当時の社会状況, とくに人びとの労働・生活環境のあり方と病気の流行との関係の考察を試みる。
While cholera epidemics became less explosive and conspicuous, this did not mean that outbreaks of acute infectious diseases generally disappeared in Japan during the first half of the twentieth century.
As a case study, this article focuses on the typhus epidemic that struck Tokyo and the regions of north-eastern Japan in 1914.
By searching into factors enhancing the risk of diffusion, this article examines the relationship between socio-economic conditions, particularly labour and living environments at the time, and the spread of infectious diseases.
