日本の高齢化率は世界最高水準であり、少子高齢・人口減少社会が進行する中で介護の担い手不足や社会保障費の増大などの問題が懸念されている。高齢者の生活や自立を支援する技術の一つとしてジェロンテクノロジーの分野が急速に発展し、高齢者自身が好みのテクノロジーを選択し活用する機会も増えてきた。高齢者の多様な生活上のニーズに対応するためにはperson-centeredアプローチが望まれる一方、テクノロジー開発は技術主導で進められることも多く、高齢者の生活上のニーズや好みと開発された製品との間にしばしばずれが生じることが指摘されている。そこで本研究では、高齢者が生きるために見出す意味や目的、価値である生きがいに焦点を当て、高齢者の生きがいのある生活へのテクノロジー利用ニーズを明らかにし、高齢者が住み慣れた場所で自立した生活を送る際のテクノロジーへの期待を検討することを目的にインタビュー調査を実施した。
調査は今年度から次年度にかけて実施する予定であり、今年度末時点で10名程度の参加者に協力を得ている。研究参加者の中には日常的にパソコンや携帯電話等の機器類を積極的に活用している人が複数いた。現時点での分析の結果、仲間とつながり活動を続けられていることに生きがいを感じ情報コミュニケーションツールを積極的に活用する、生きがいのある生活のために健康管理を最優先と考え健康アプリや電子機器類を活用するなど、老いていく自身の心身の変化を感じながらも可能な限り自立した生活が送れるようテクノロジーの活用を検討している様子が明らかとなった。一方で、テクノロジー利用における格差、情報管理に対する不安などの懸念が挙がった。次年度も引き続きインタビュー調査を継続し、結果の分析を進め論文投稿を行う予定である。
Japan's aging population is among the highest worldwide, leading to concerns regarding a shortage of caregivers and rising social security costs due to a declining birthrate, aging society, and shrinking population. The field of gerontology has rapidly developed ways to support the lives and independence of older adults. Additionally, there are increasing opportunities for older adults to select and utilize the technology of their choice. While a person-centered approach is desirable to meet the diverse lifestyle needs of older adults, it has been pointed out that development was often technology-driven. Furthermore, there is often a disconnect between the lifestyle needs and preferences of older adults and the products developed. Therefore, this study focused on the meaning, purpose, and value that older adults found and aimed to clarify the needs of older adults who used technology to lead worthwhile lives. Additionally, we examined their expectations of technology when they lived independently in their own familiar places.
The interview survey is scheduled to be conducted from this fiscal year to the next, and as of the end of this fiscal year, approximately 10 participants have cooperated. Several study participants actively used personal computers, cell phones, and other devices on a daily basis. As a result of the analysis at this time, we found that the participants actively used information and communication tools as they felt a sense of purpose in being connected with their peers and continue their activities. Furthermore, they used health applications and electronic devices as they considered health management as a top priority to lead a worthwhile life. The survey revealed that they considered that the use of technology enabled them to lead independent lives. In contrast, concerns were raised regarding the disparities in technology use and information management. We plan to continue the interview survey in the next fiscal year, analyze further results, and submit them for publication.
