アートベース・リサーチという質的な研究方法を社会学的な実践にどのように利用するかに関して一連の調査実践を行なった。フィールドワークは、各地に残る戦災記念や慰霊碑の設置場所に、自分の身体を置くことで自分の体験する変化を記録し記憶することでなされた。この実践は、全く新しい、身体に基礎を置くABRの可能性を吟味するためである。言語表現への距離を主張するABRであるが、ABR実践の制作過程では、言語的な構築は通常の社会学的な思考と同じく、重要なものとされる。その際に、研究者が自分の身体的な記憶や感受性をそのままに利用するのは稀である。
この研究では、自分の身体にアーカイブされた体験から、たとえば、戦争を体験していない私自身の戦争体験を表現するという方向性すら肯定される。自分自身の記憶体験の表現ツールとしては、オートエスノグラフィやパフォーマンスアートを利用する。
研究成果は、6月に金沢市で開催された国際学会カルチュラル・スタディーズにおいてアートと社会学をテーマにしたセッション、10月には東京芸大で開催された国際学会Art/Research/Practiceにおけるキーノートスピーチとパフォーマンス、11月に日本社会学会でのレクチャーパフォーマンスにて公にされた
I undertook a series of research exercises on how to use the qualitative research method of art-based research in sociological practice. The fieldwork consisted of placing my own body at various war memorials and cenotaphs around the country to record and remember the changes I experienced. The purpose of this practice was to examine the possibility of an entirely new, body-based ABR. Despite ABR's insistence on a distance from verbal expression, linguistic construction is as important in the making of ABR practices as is normal sociological thinking. In doing so, it is rare for researchers to draw on their own bodily memories and sensitivities intact.
This research even affirms the direction of expressing, for example, my own "war experiences", which I actually have never experienced, from the experiences archived in my body. Autoethnography and performance art will be used as tools for the expression of my own memory experiences.
The results of my research were presented to the public in a session on art and sociology at the international conference Cultural Studies in Kanazawa in June, in a keynote speech and performance at the international conference Art/Research/Practice at Tokyo University of the Arts in October, and in a lecture performance at the Japan Sociological Society in November.
