本研究の目的は, 慶應義塾大学商学部の創設の事情・背景とカリキュラムの形成過程を, 当時の諸記録および関係者へのヒヤリングなどに基づき明らかにすることにある。商学部は1957年に経済学部から分離して創設された。これまで商学部創設の理由として, 日本経済と企業の発達を背景とした有能な産業人の育成という社会的要請の高まりと義塾創立100年(1958年)の記念事業の一環ということが言われてきた。しかし, 当時の会議議事録や関係者の証言から, これらの理由と並んで, 当時の義塾の財政的事情が商学部創立の有力な動機であったことが明らかになった。義塾商学部は他大学の商学部と異なり, 経済学・産業研究系のスタッフおよび科目の比重が大きいという特徴を有している。この特徴は商学部設立認可申請の過程で文部省の認可を得やすくするために義塾がとった行動が生んだ偶然であった可能性が高いが, これが結果として「経済学をベースとした幅広い視野をもった商学の教育と研究」というユニークな商学部像の確立につながった。
The purpose of this study is to clarify the reasons and background of the establishment of Faculty of Business and Commerce, Keio University in 1957.
The major findings of the study are as follows ;
1. The main reason of the establishment of the faculty was response to financial difficulty of Keio University at the time rather than request from society and one hundred year commemoration project of the university mentioned in previous researches.
2. The Faculty of Business and Commerce, Keio University has a larger proportion of economics and industrial studies in composition of the course and academic staff compared with commercial faculties of other universities. This characteristic of the Faculty was the result of opportunistic behavior in the application for approval of establishment.
