1950年代と60年代の家計,企業,政府の行動目的は一致していた。家計の目的は生活水準の向上,企業の目的は工業化による生産性の向上,政府の目的は戦争で破壊された社会経済システムの再建と雇用の確保であった。耐久消費財は家計の生活水準の向上および企業の生産性向上両面に大きな貢献をした。それは消費の拡大ならびに投資意欲の維持に役立った。
