本稿は1905-10年の大阪でのペスト流行をとりあげ, 『大阪府第二回百斯篤流行誌』を主な史料としながら, 流行の様相とその対策を明らかにする。アジアでの第3次パンデミックを背景として, 大阪府では958名の患者が発生し, 近代日本で最大のペスト被害となった。行政当局は捕鼠・除鼠に重点を置きながら患者の早期発見に努め, 入院・隔離, 交通遮断, 消毒で対応したが, 零細事業者や下層民を中心に社会経済的にも大きな打撃を与えた。
This study discusses the plague outbreak in Osaka from 1905 to 1910 and describes how it spread and what countermeasures were taken, based primarily on "The Report on the Second Plague Outbreak in Osaka Prefecture." 
Against the backdrop of the 3rd pandemic in Asia, this study explores the case of Osaka prefecture where 958 patients suffered from plague, which is the largest case in modern Japan. 
The authorities focused on capturing and exterminating rats, while trying to detect patients at early stages to counter the outbreak with hospitalization and quarantine, cordoning and blocking transport, and disinfection. 
However, the epidemic had negative socioeconomic consequences, primarily to small business and lower income groups.
