| Abstract |
In the fourth year of Keio, 1868, Fukuzawa reorganized his school, founded ten years before, and named it Keio-gijuku after the English 'public school' and then published a small guidebook titled 'Shiba Shinsenza Keio-gijuku no Ki'. The book showed us the earliest one of European type private schools in Meiji Japan. And it has seven articles as follows: 1. The organization and aim of the Keio-gijuku society. 2. Rules of the school life. 3. Rules of the dining-hall. 4. Entrance procedure. 5. The schedule. 6. The map of the campus. 7. The account of the 'Chugen' festival. The present thesis will analyze and explain those articles from the viewpoint of the historical study of Japanese educational thought.
