本研究は, 欠如, 空白, 余白, 沈黙といった不在性の上位概念としての「間」に着目し, 現代の日欧の音楽劇を例に, 「間」の音楽的, 演劇的な構造を明らかにしようとするものである。本年度も引き続き, 「間」の一形態として「待つ」という状態に焦点を当てて考察を進めた。
サルヴァトーレ・シャリーノのオペラ《氷から氷へ》(Da Gelo a Gelo, 2006)は, 『和泉式部日記』を題材とし, 恋人を「待つ」主体の心情を100の詩で綴り, 場面化した作品である。伝統的なドラマの構造から逸脱し, 直線的な物語の進行を放棄している点で「ポストドラマ的」な舞台作品である。このなかで, 「待つ」ことが言葉と音楽によっていかに具現化されているかを, 昨年度の現地調査で収集した楽譜資料をもとに分析した。反復と静寂を多用するシャリーノの音楽美学は, 「待つ」主体における主観的時間, とりわけ停滞する時間のイメージを喚起する。日本の古典文学とイタリアの現代音楽が作り出すトランスカルチュラル(越境文化的)な特性と, オペラ芸術の新たな地平を開く可能性について考察し, その成果は来年に学会で発表する予定である。
細川俊夫のオペラ作品における「間」の表象について分析し, 国際誌に掲載されることが決定している。細川作品の「間」は, 静寂と音響の「間」, 日本の能と西洋のコレオグラフィーの「間」, そして非同一性としての自然美が立ち現れる余地としての「間」という重層的な機能を果たしている。そこに, 文化間のボーダーを越えていく「越境演劇」として, 音楽劇の新たな地平を開く可能性が見出せる。
The objective of this study is to identify the musical and theatrical structures of 'space', by focusing on 'space' as a superordinate concept of absence—void, vacuum, blank spaces, and silence—using contemporary Japanese and European musical theatre as an example. This year, we continued to focus on the state of 'waiting' as a form of 'space' as we progressed with the study.
Salvatore Sciarrino's opera, 'From Ice to Ice' (Da Gelo a Gelo, 2006) uses 'The Izumi Shikibu Diary' as a theme, and it comprises 100 poems or scenes that encompass the subject's feelings as she 'waits' for her lover. It is a post-dramatic theatre production, as it distances itself from the structure of traditional dramas and abandons the progression of a straightforward story. From this, the extent to which 'waiting' could be realised through words and music was analysed based on musical score data collected in last year's field study. The aesthetics of Sciarrino's music, which frequently uses repetition and silence, evokes the image of the subjective time of the 'waiting' subject, particularly the image of time standing still. Based on this analysis, we studied the transcultural characteristics (cross-cultural) that classical Japanese literature and contemporary Italian music generate, and we plan to present our findings at an academic conference next year.
Furthermore, it has been decided that our analysis of the idea of 'space' regarding Toshio Hosokawa's operas will appear in an international magazine. 'Space', in Hosokawa's works serves a multi-layered function, from the 'space' between silence and noise, the 'space' between Japanese Noh theatre and Western choreography, and 'space' as room for the emergence of non-identical natural beauty. From this, it is possible to find new horizons in musical theatre as 'transcultural theatre' that crosses cultural boundaries. Moreover, to shed light on the common aspects of 'transcultural theatre' and post-dramatic theatre, we analysed the operas directed by Christoph Schlingensief as a case study and presented the findings at an academic conference.
