Abstract |
The atomization of liquid was already mentioned by Abbe Nollet in 1750 in his study on electro-statics. To-day the industry of painting has great concern to this phenomenon, because it became a very important problem to know how the paint is disintegrated in the electro-static field.
We studied it by means of high speed cinematogragh to find the causes by which the paint is disintegrated, and we found following two phenomena-One is the snaky motion of the liquid string flowing down into the air, and the other is the sudden breaking down of the liquid into particles after the snaky motion.
In order to analyse these phenomena, we used the experimental results on the motion of a pendulum which swings in the electro-static field.
Passing through these processes, the mechanisms of snaky motion and disintegration of liquid can be explained.
