| Abstract |
The recent eminent publication by Behrens et al on the biosynthesis of new penicillins has made the present author to investigate the n-butylthiomethyl-penicillin from the industrial point of view.
The author studies the biosynthetic effects of n-butylmercaptoacetic acid on shaking culture using Penicillium chrysogenum Q 176 pigmentless saltant. The n-butylthiomethyl-penicillin sodium salt is extracted by solvent extraction and purified by chromatography. Using the pure sodium salt of n-butylthiomethyl-penicillin prepared, the stabilities and the effective distribution coefficients between water and organic solvents are estimated.
