| Abstract |
The primary aim of this research has been to update an online database of prehistoric architectural reconstructions located at archaeological sites and other locations throughout Japan. The value of this database is for understanding long-term trends in archaeological preservation movements and site development and utilization practices. The database now contains over 360 sites that contain over 1,000 different structures, located in every prefecture in Japan and one-sixth of all municipalities.
The research for fiscal year 2020 involved two activities. The first was an exhaustive editing of the original dataset, checking for consistency, providing translations, and removing errors. The second aspect involved updating the website and database framework. The updating involved inclusion of new data such as entries of new sites as well as information on buildings' designers and their backgrounds. The site URL was moved to a new domain (tateana.org) and a new user interface was incorporated.
The results of this database project have been reported and published.
