不安障害をはじめとする精神疾患や，痛みを訴える神経疾患では，身体内部の感覚である「内受容感覚」が重要な役割を担っている．特に予測的な処理ができるような状況では，この影響が生じやすいことが知られている．しかしながら，その背景にあるメカニズムは未解明である．そこで，まず時間精度の高い自律神経指標の開発を目的とした研究を実施し，顔の皮膚血流が心の細かい状態を反映する適切な指標になることを示した．この成果は赤面症などの治療にも応用できる可能性がある．また，慢性頭痛を対象とした実験の結果，頭痛患者では内受容感覚の正確さが低い傾向があり，それは痛みの頻度でなく，感じる痛みの強さに関係することが示唆された．
Interoception, the sense of the internal state of the body, plays an important role in anxiety disorders and other psychiatric disorders, as well as in neurological disorders that cause pain. This effect is likely to occur in situations where anticipatory processing is possible. However, the mechanisms behind these phenomena remain unresolved. We first conducted a study to develop an accurate autonomic index and showed that facial skin blood flow could be an appropriate marker to reflect the fine state of mind. The results of this study may be applied to the treatment of blushing disorder or other anxiety-related disorders. The results of other experiment for the patients with chronic cephalalgia showed that the interoceptive accuracy tended to be lower in the patients, suggesting that it relates to the intensity of pain felt, not the frequency of pain.
