| Abstract |
本稿では, 19世紀前半のインドにおける貴金属貿易および貨幣鋳造について数量データを用いて分析し, 当時貨幣不足が生じ, 経済不況を招いたのかを考察する。1820年代から40年代に貴金属不足や貨幣不足は生じていたのか, 地域的な差異は存在したのか, 貴金属貿易と貨幣鋳造にどのような関係があり, 不況にどのような影響を与えたのか, こうした問題を取り上げる。
By analyzing the trade of precious metals into and out of India and the currency of the East India Company in the first half of 19th century India, I discuss the relationship between money shortage and the depression in India. This study answer the following questions; Did shortages of precious metals and currency really occur in India between 1820's and 1840's? Can differences be demarcated between the Presidencies in India vis-à-vis shortages of precious metals and currency? Are precious metals shortages correlated with currency shortages?
