マラヤ・シンガポールは, もともと米の不足地域であったが, 「大東亜」戦争開始後は, 輸送手段の不足による輸入減少で, いっそう深刻な食糧危機に直面していた。そこでそれに対処するために米の配給制度が導入されたが, 本稿は, 現地の公文書館や日本の防衛庁戦史部で収集した一次資料をもとに, その仕組みを解明するとともに, 実際どのように機能し, どのような問題点をはらんでいたのかを分析した。
Although Malaya and Singapore were originally rice shortage areas, after the start of the "Greater East Asia" war, a reduction in imports due to lack of transportation means caused them to face an all the more serious food crisis. 
Therefore, a rice rationing system was introduced to respond to this situation. 
Based on primary sources collected in local archives and Japan's Defense Agency Military History Department, this study, while explaining the system's framework, analyzes the actual functioning of the system and the types of issues that it dealt with.
