Abstract |
This study raises the case of Seijogakko, a preparatory school for the Japan Military Academy, as the destination for "Shibusawa Eiichi of Chosen" Sangyong Han's studies in Japan, considering the ideological influence of 19th century Korean foreign students and their activities after returning to their home country.
Taro Utsunomiya, the Army's Chief of Staff at the time, was responsible for Korean and Chinese students and held a pan-Asianist perspective that evolved from a national sovereignty principle to a Japan-as-leader theory.
Sangyong Han, influenced by Utsunomiya, cooperated with Japanese colonialist policies for Korea during Japan's annexation of Korea after his return, under the instructions and direction of the military attache for the Japanese Embassy in Korea, Shizutake Nozu.
