| Abstract |
This paper clarifies what kind of truth-conditions dynamic meaning has and what kind of relations there are between static and dynamic truth-conditions.Some dynamic semantic theories provide methods of defining truth with respect to context, and derive truth-conditional meaning from their dynamic meaning (Context Change Potential). This attempt implies dynamic meaning could convert to static truth-conditional meaning, and vice versa. There are, however, some problems with this program. Focusing on the role of structured contextual information and the notions of truth-conditions, the paper shows that truth-conditions derived from dynamic meaning are precisely what allows us to have static truth-conditional content, especially, in terms of epistemic modality.In spite of this result, the paper also points out that there would be an important difference among them.
