As the number of male nursery school teachers increases, there are some parents who do not want their daughter's clothes to be changed by the teacher. In this study, we investigate whether the attitude of denying male teachers from taking care of female children is correlated to gender stereotypes and a lack of recognition of expertise. The results of a questionnaire survey found that many people had a negative opinion about nursery school teachers taking care of students of the opposite gender. In particular, with respect to care involving the removal of clothing, more people were of the opinion that male teachers should not care for students of the opposite gender than those who felt the same about female teachers. People who felt that female teachers could care for male children, but male teachers should not care for female children, had stronger perceptions of gender roles than those who either allowed or denied care for students of the opposite gender regardless of the teachers' gender. Further, a negative correlation was observed between perception of gender role division and recognition of expertise of nursery school teachers. We argue the necessity of gender equality in childcare settings and investment in preschool education to prevent gender stereotyping and to increase recognition of the teachers expertise.
わずかではあるが男性保育士が増えつつある中, 娘の着替えを男性保育士にさせないでほしいといった要求を保育園にする保護者が出てきており, 社会問題となっている。本研究では, 男性保育士が女児の世話をすることに対する否定的な態度が, ジェンダー・ステレオタイプや保育士の専門性の認識の欠如と関連しているかどうかを検討した。質問紙調査の結果, 保育士が異性園児の世話をすることについて否定的な考えを示す人も多く, 特に, 衣服を脱がせる行為を伴う世話の場合は, 女性保育士と比べて, 男性保育士が異性園児の世話をすることを否定する意見が多かった。女性保育士が男児の世話をすることは肯定するが, 男性保育士が女児の世話をすることは否定するという人は, 保育士の性別にかかわらず異性の園児の世話をすることを肯定もしくは否定する人と比べて, 性別役割分業を肯定する傾向があることが示された。さらに, 性別役割分業を肯定する人ほど, 保育士の専門性認識が低いという相関もみられた。ジェンダー・ステレオタイプの再生産を防止し, 保育士の専門性認識を高めるために, 就学前教育への投資を増やし, 就学前教育における男女共同参画を促進することの重要性を議論する。
