Shigeki Nishimura is known as an enlightenment thinker in the Meiji Restoration. He felt the necessity of a moral association, established Nihon kodokai. He came up with thought of Japan's moral foundation, tried to spread it through Nihon kodokai. Therefore he recommended the establishment of its branch throughout Japan. Kurosu branch is one of its branches which were established in Saitama Prefecture.
The purpose of this study is to make clear people of Kurosu branch how understand and use Nishimura's thought. In Kurosu branch, Mitsuyoshi Handa and Syouhei Hotti and Buhei Handa played a central role. Therefore I investigate their discourses and activities.
They held the meeting twice a year in Kurosu branch. They tried to work according to Nishimura's thought. They also were involved in the management of Kurosu Bank. However they didn't follow Nishimura's thought at its activity. They took out only Confucianism from Japan's moral foundation, used it to increase the cohesion of its employees. They were also engaged in the social education business. They established "Kurosu kyohukai", "Seinen dotoku kenkyukai" and "Toyooka daigaku". Even these groups, they used only Confucianism in Japan's moral foundation, to maintain their social order.
