Abstract
The purpose of this study is to trace the development of pedagogy in the curriculum at Keio University after the educational system reform in 1938 until the war. In the process, it is unavoidable to focus on the point that pedagogy was needed only for teacher training or not. The following situations of pedagogy will give some clues for the question: the position in the literature department, the subjects in the teacher training courses and the contents and teachers of the lectures.
In 1938, three faculties and fifteen majors were established again in the literature department after 10 years. Around that time, the lectures of pedagogy were included in the subjects for students who desired to take teacher's licenses without examination. However, the contents of them show a side which had a different context from teacher training. General pedagogy was led by Sumie Kobayashi, and several teachers took turns teaching on the other subjects related with pedagogy. It is conceivable that the lectures of pedagogy at Keio University took a role not only in teacher training.
