Abstract |
This study aims at elucidating the origin of the lectures of Pedagogy at KEIO UNIVERSITY. In 1890, Keio gijuku established a college with Departments of Law, Literature, and Economics. At that time, it is said that the lectures of Pedagogy started, but in facts, later it was done by Taizo Nakajima. It seems that there were some relationship between the certificate examination system for junior high school teachers and the opening the lectures of Pedagogy.
Taizo Nakajima, a famous psychologist, gave lectures on pedagogy but which was not enough to Keio gijuku to receive the privilege to give their students the teaching licenses without examination. However, Keio gijuku did not change the course of study in order to adapt the idea of the administration at that time and they lost the privilege. Even so, Nakajima continued to hold the chair of pedagogy at Keio gijuku until 1903.
