| Abstract |
This work re-examines the textual connections between Aristotle's Categories and Topics which Isaac Husik alleged in his 1952 (1904, 1939) article, 'The Categories of Aristotle,' and which have greatly influenced subsequent views in favor of the authenticity of the Categories. Some of Husik's arguments are shown to be invalid, others questionable; his conclusion is shown to lack solid foundation. This paper therefore urges the need to reopen the case against the authenticity of the Categories; attention is drawn in particular to the significant differences between the substance terminology and notion used in this treatise, and in the Sophistici Elenchi.
