Abstract
This is a small note about the history of Women's education which started off at Meiji era. The progress of Japanese modern education, both for men and women, owe much to western culture. The First big wave of Western culture were carried by several Missionary societies. They are Protestant Missions. They started to build schools for girls and the first Missionary school in Tokyo was built at 1870. From then the Missionary society spread out throughout Japan. On the other hand, Catholic convent started their work in Japan for public good. They were defeated on the first stage of expansion of the school establishment. After mid-Meiji Catholic convent changed their strategy for survive in this newly developed country. This note tried to describe the process of how these Christian missionaries or convents settled their schools under "the rushing wind and gale" age.
