Currently there are two distinctively different camps in psychology or the science of "mind". One is cognitive science and the other is behavior analysis. Behavior analysts have established their own verbal community in which mentalistic statements are seldom reinforced, while cognitive scientists still remain in the laymen's mentalistic verbal community. So, scientifically productive communication between cognitive scientists and behavior analysts is rare. The author argues that the only promising way to increase the communication between cognitive scientists and behavior analysts is to expose cognitive scientists to the contingencies of reinforcement in the behavior analytic verbal community.
